It looks like scientists may have developed a combination
therapy of stem cells and gene therapy that can heal
hearts after a heart attack...

The implication is that if one is able to "bank" such modified
stem cells in advance then one could repair the damage caused
by a heart attack. The next modification that one would want
to this is to be able to use stem cells harvested from the blood
rather than from the bone marrow. Bone marrow harvesting is
a relatively complex and perhaps painful procedure. Harvesting
stem cells from the blood is much easier though a more complex
cell sorting procedure may be required.
