Sadly there's still sleep rebound from modafinil. It's smaller than the sleep rebound if you stay awake on caffeine or just through sheer willpower, but it's there.

I find it fascinating the eventual sleep rebound (sleep debt) is reduced by taking modafinil. I would have thought in the end the piper would still have to be paid "in full."
Totally eliminating sleep debt would be an extremely difficult thing to do. And even if it could be done, most likely it would speed up the aging process by increasing wear and tear on the body. This would be due to cutting out some of the downtime needed to "make repairs." And also there would be cognitive problems, considering sleep is important to forming longlasting memories.
best wishes,
John (who wants to join the ranks of the "Supersleepless")
