    Jef:
<<I'm not sure I understand your point here, unless you are suggesting that
this might account for various god myths, based on assumed interaction
between highly advanced "space intelligences" and ancient humans. I don't
see any need to hypothesize God(s), whether as "space intelligence" or
    otherwise.>>

I am not sure that I was trying to make a point, as much as an observation.
All I seem to have accomplished was to merely, paraphrase Arthur Clarke.

<<Perhaps I should add this to my reading list.  Thanks.  I haven't read
Moravec, but Greg Egan has certainly been a strong influence on my thinking.>>

I am not sure that Egan would say " I wrote Disapora, and I believe every
word, as a solid prediction of the future.." Whereas I believe I know that
Moravec could discuss Mind Children or Robot, and come up with substantial reasoning
    and analysis.

<<I suspect that the key to understanding the Fermi "paradox" is that most or
all civilizations are at the level 2 plateau, and thus virtually
undetectable for a long period of time.  >>

This is exactly what Soviet astronomer Kardashev outlined in 1962. But,
again, the sky does not crackle or beep with comprehensive signals. Nobody seems to
be putting out analog signals of some eight-legged Punch and Judy broadcast
    either.
