The current extreme summer heatwave and drought is causing fires and
problems all around the Med.
But last year (2002) the USA had around 7,000,000 acres burnt by
wildland fires.
http://www.nifc.gov/stats/wildlandfirestats.html
That is around 2.8 million hectacres, 11,000 square miles, Nearly 100
times the area burnt in France so far. And the USA is only about 17
times greater in land area than France.
Looking at the annual statistics, forest fires seem to be an increasing
problem for the USA.
Global warming, anyone?
Or should that be, Global warning, anyone?
