"Avatars" are now working their way into every corner of our lives, says the
BBC in their on-line Science and Technology section.
Creating a totally convincing human being on screen, something that looks
and acts so life-like that it is indistinguishable from a real person is,
with recent technical advances, already within our grasp. Since you can
already create an avatar of yourself to attach to emails, send to your
mobile phone, or do things you might never do yourself, avatar production
not only looks set to revolutionize the movies but it has import for general
communications as well.
