    I think you're slightly off the point here. You don't need an email
    address to track down the perp. It will probably be a throwaway Hotmail
    address anyway.

    The IP address and hostname is what you use to trace back. That's why
    when I surf out into the 'Here be dragons' areas of the internet I use
    one of the many IP anonymiser processes to hide my true IP address. (I
    don't use it all the time because of the slowdown while it bounces
    around through the many links in the chain).

    For 'special' and normal browsing my cookies are set to 'session-only'
    of course, and deleted immediately after browsing and 'referrer' data
    is always blocked.
