This is a wonderful advance, because it provides a more direct path to
specific tissues than stem cells. Once we get a method to use adult cells
from a patient's own tissues to grow more tissue, we no longer have a
problem finding the cells we need. Even the most damaged organs usually
have some healthy cells left in them which may be harvested to grow
patient-specific replacements.
This may also be a politically more expedient path than stem cells as well.
