There is some truth in what you say but things become more complicated when
you're talking about a company's officials hired by the stockholders.
Example: I am Chairman and CEO of Asia Pacific Plastic Vomit but own no
stock in the company, I have badly mismanaged the company and I know that
the dismal economic report will be released to the public tomorrow, so I
short sell the stock today. I get rich and the stockholders get poor. I
really think I need to go to jail.
True, Martha Stewart didn't do anything nearly that bad but others did and
don't seem to be in as much trouble as she is. Go figure.
