Devil's Avocate: if no one's verifying the producer's
information, the producer can lie freely. You may
have heard of Underwriters' Laboratory, a rather large
business that sustains itself mainly by independently
testing (verifying or falsifying) manufacturers'
claims. Granted, one could take advantage of present
norms in an industry to severely reduce the chances
that a giver producer would lie, but that's not
necessarily as reliable over the long term.
