Problem is, both qualities are in the eye of the
observer. What one considers stupid, another could
    consider enlightenment. Ditto for boring.

Which leads to the following: if there was an entity -
let us not care about its true nature, nor about the
morality of its actions*, just the fact that it has
    the
abilities to reason about and, to some finite extent,
act upon its environment - who wished to be perceived
as an AI by every being on its planet that it
considered sapient, how might it go about doing so?
Installing augmented reality that it controls on all
such beings (a finite number) might be one approach.
    So might drastically, almost sociopathically,
restricting its definition of sapience. Other
    solutions?

*I'm explicitly excluding this given the likelihood,
given recent history, that any debate on it, no matter
how well intentioned, will quickly dissolve into
effectively spam. If you're tempted to take this
    point
up: please, for the sake of the list, DON'T!
