It doesn't sound like naivete (people who claim such generally aren't).
It actually sounds like arrogance on your part, who so far as we know
has a far lower intelligence than Mr. Smith, to assume that what you
think is true is right about the existence of God and what he thinks is
true is wrong.
Wanting to help the world is highly extropic. Yes, it is naive for any
normal person to think that they have much chance of doing so to any
significance, any more than anybody else. It seems, though, from the
article, that he is already doing far more to help the world than any
normal person would ever do in their lifetime. I wouldn't put it past
him to find that he does a lot more. It sounds to me like he has some
extraordinary parents who did what needed to be done with a genius
child. If only all parents of geniuses did the same.
And shame on Jane Goodall. She being nothing more than a secretary to
apes (all of Leakey's female proteges studying live apes were plain
Janes of average intelligence). That she is unable to appreciate what
geniuses need to have fun brings into doubt the credibility of her
work, which is entirely based on observation of ape behavior.
