On Fri, 23 May 2003 Spudboy100@aol.com posed some questions,
some perhaps rhetorical).
My general response would tend to be to ask whether or not
we can create a priority system for what should be discussed.
So can we assign priorities to the people killed by arsenic
in Bangladesh, HIV in South Africa and automatic weapons
in high schools in the U.S.?
I would dearly like to see a system that was organized
such that I would know what the extropic cost was on
a "per catastrophe" basis. (Since in part becaue the
ExI list is not organized in a way to sort based on
extropic valuation content -- mind you sorting on
human "life" value is problematic but it might be
a start).
I don't know how to compare the earthquake death toll in
Algiers with the SARS death toll in Taiwan (and would
like to be able to do so)!
For example, if I had the means, time, energy, etc. should I
be supporting myself or my politicians in reforming the
building code in Algiers or the health code in Taiwan???
