I'd have to dispute this. I would argue that Iran has become much more
moderate SPECIFICALLY because of our support of Iraq. Remember, Saddams
forces killed millions of Iranians in that war, to the point where Iran
was reduced to sending waves of 13 year olds against the Republican
Guard at the end. Most of the old guard support for the Ayatollahs died
in the war. As a result, Iran now has the youngest demographic
structure of any country in the world right now, and they all want to
live like Americans. It is only a matter of time before the old
Ayatollahs all die off and the younger generation takes control
completely.
This is one way to change the mind of a nation: kill off most of the
people who dislike you the most (especially if you can get someone else
to do the killing).
I predict that ten years from now, more Iranians will like us than Iraqis.
