My 2 cents.
As a shooter, I can see the attraction and reasons for hunting wildlife. It
just isn't something for me. As a teen, I did bag a couple of birds with an
air rifle. The sick feeling that it gave me far outweighed any benefits I
gained from the experience.
As a Paintballer, you could probably still class me as a hunter, only now It
is my fellow man that is my quarry. This does give me the real thrill of the
hunt and my quarry has the equal opportunity to have my head on his mantle at
the end of the day.
One question I have is how do we justify taking man out of the equation, when
it comes to the natural ecology?
Surely mankind has been hunting deer for millennia, not with rifles. Would a
tribe of primitive man, armed with spears and bows do more damage to a
natural population of deer than a few modern hunters who can only shoot legal
targets?
By allowing controlled hunting, are we just maintaining the 'natural order'
of the ecosystem, rather than unbalancing by removing predation by man?
