"The Reason". Hah!

Certainly. Here are "the reasons" I gave on January 24, in
http://www.extropy.org/exi-lists/extropians/0301/1327.html
But beyond giving a cruel tyranny what it deserves, there
are the issues of
(a) non-proliferation
(b) support for terrorists
(c) monopolistic control of oil
(d) breaking treaties and agreements
(e) ignoring U.N. security council
resolutions
Besides those, I'll freely admit that if the Iraqi regime
does get overthrown, it will be a good object lesson all
around to other "vile and murderous" nations, who may be
more fearful in the future as regards (a), (b), (c), (d),
and may also fear getting in the eyes of the West a bad
reputation on rights abuses---which might even be called (f).
So whatever the outcome of (a), I discussed here no less than
five other reasons. I think that those reasons have stood
the test of time, especially including (f).
I have found that children demand *a* reason for doing
something, and start to disbelieve you if you give more
than one. But adults' actions are seldom undertaken for
a single reason---it's the whole gestalt, really. The
child is also influenced by many things, but just doesn't
realize it.
