Some would argue (I am one) that politeness and civility are barriers to
efficient, and effective communication. However, if communication is not
your goal, rather some form of manipulation or coercion where
communication is the means not the end, then politeness, civility, tact,
and a diplomatic manner are more effective. The terms 'idiot' and
'moron' leave no room for mistakes about what the other person thinks of
your words (effective communication). Their use may even be a way to get
you to shut up (manipulation/coercion). Either way, I submit you should
do your best to avoid such terms being used in reference to you.
