    I haven't read Prey so of course my opinion of it doesn't mean much, but I
    think I can agree with you in general. Also there is something to be said
    just for getting the subject of nanotech out there into the public arena. It
    is better that nanotech be a subject of public controversy than not a
    subject at all. As the saying goes, "Any advertising is better than no
    advertising." Perhaps Crichton thought he was servicing the cause in this
    respect.

    I'll be reading it shortly, just to keep the lady happy. This will be one of
    perhaps 5 works of fiction I've read in perhaps ten years. I'm not a fiction
    fan, unless it's something truly classic (LOTF) or unless someone twists my
    arm as in this case. :)
