I am in the middle of the "Otherland" series (4 very large volumes!) by Tad
Williams. If you are interested in future applications of VR and some pretty
interesting plot twists, these books have it all. This is the first time I
have read any of Williams' stuff, but from what I have read so far, he is an
excellent descriptive writer and develops his characters fairly well.
And of course, EVERYONE should read "Snowcrash" by Neil Stephenson!!! :D
For hardcore scifi, I like a lot of Greg Bear, Heinlein, Orson Scott Card,
Frank Herbert, Philip Jose Farmer, and Larry Niven.
My 2 cents,
Artillo
