Liberty isn't about living in paranoia, fear, and distrust of the rest
    of humanity.

Conversely, it isn't about killing off everyone you distrust, either.
The best you can do is get rid of the worst of the worst, make sure the
'just as worst' are unable to effectively strike at you, and hope your
sterling example of sternness and restraint educates the rest, that
makes them want to be trustworthy individuals living in liberty.
