You shouldn't fear the market unless you expect to need that wealth in the
near term. If you're considering an IRA account then presumably you're
willing to tuck that money away for the long term. If so then my advice is
to open an IRA on Monday, get the tax break, and invest the money in one or
more no-load mutual funds of your liking, for example in sector funds that
specialize in growth industries of interest to extropians (biotech, etc).
By the way in a former life I spent 15 years selling my financial advice for
a fee. This one's a freebie. :)
