Hal Finney querried:
<<As I watched these arguments (they don't even really deserve to be
called debates - fights might be a better word), I kept wondering if
there couldn't be a better way, some approach which would incorporate our
Extropian values. Even if the topics were not particularly Extropian,
couldn't we at least go about things in a distinctive way? Could we do
something that said, this argument is among Extropians, people with a
certain unique perspective. Could these threads of discussion acquire
traits which would distinguish them from the identical arguments about
Iraq which could be found all over the web?>>
1. Some of these web debates are with people who desire one's annihilation,
or
support those who do.
2. Your post still assumes that people can agree on what the facts are.
Witness Iraqi
State television, right up to 24 before US Forces rolled in Paradise
Square. This
may not have been mere propaganda on the Iraqi' TV broadcasters' part.
Actually, shared values tend to help people succeed in agreements, especially
with negotiations, rather then "facts." If one can channel common values into
a certain direction, one can then have a real chance of success, or progress
then. As regards to how this would effect debate on this list, please refer
to item one.
