According to the article, much of the problem simply
comes from the Afghan army and police not being paid,
and therefore abandoning their posts. I wonder if the
Bush administration could be convinced to do something
so simple as directly bankroll said police and
military, since it would advance their stated
anti-terrorism agenda (even if it would do little to
claim oil revenues, demonstrate the might of America's
army, et cetera)?
