Filters. And something to automatically clean
(scrape?) the filters off every once in a while,
probably using stored power from the fuel cell itself.
That's assuming you can't just get filters that
automatically repel everything that'd stick to them,
but as you say, blood is awfully messy, and there's
always the potential for traces of things that aren't
"supposed" to be there in theory but are in practice.
("Well, yeah, *now* I know not to drink mercury, but I
was just a kid back then. Some of it never got out of
my system. So, are you going to cough up a settlement
for your product malfunctioning or do I have to take
this to court?")
