The story about the alleged Coalition bombing of a marketplace in Baghdad
mentions this happened in a Shiite neighborhood. Does anyone here know how
many Shiites live in Baghdad? They are definitely a minority in the
predominantly Sunni city. The appearance of the explosion site does not show
a deep crater, as one might expect from a penetrating bomb, but rather
resembles the traces of a large mortar round.

While US involvement is not impossible, the two facts mentioned above, and
the absence of any military installations in the vicinity, make me think
that the Sunni Baathists lobbed a mortar round on the marketplace at the
time when it was full, after waiting for a plane to pass within sufficiently
    small distance to be seen.
