### This is a good point, although perhaps a bit too pessimistic. A
crafty researcher in desperation might apply for funding from the Office
of Alternative Medicine (or however it is called). This agency has money
which is literally begging to be taken, since charlatans apparently were
unable to deplete it, while legitimate researchers don't want to sully
their resumes. Keeping your scientific persona separate from the
alternative can net you hundreds of thousands of Stupid Dollars, which
you can by tricks of legerdemein siphon off to real research, while
largely avoiding infamy and ostracism. At least that's what the old
hands at the grant game are telling me.
