Talking to these anarchists, they are generally the sort that do not
recognise anarcho-capitalism or American Libertarianism as a legitimate
form of anarchy. They claim that the only real anarchists are
socialists (as we've discussed the issue here before, I won't detail
this further). It is these sort who are the heart of both the
anti-globalization and the luddite movements.
This is to distinguish such from the Western diamondback anarchist,
generally a vet or otherwise gun toting individual who is foursquare
for capitalism and the free market. Such are usually ex-Patriots who
became disillusioned by the whole Ruby Ridge/Waco/ATF series of events
in the last decade, but not exclusively so, and generally opinions
differ based on who is in office. Some are ardent isolationists to the
point of being prototypical "armadillos" as Vernor Vinge described.
There are a few such on this list and attending Extro conferences.
