I think this is especially true if one allows ones opponent to define
what constitutes violence. According to my reading of Rand a set in that
denies me the peaceful use of my property is an intiation of violence. So is
someone trying to get my property from me through deception.
I remember a movie (name long forgotten) that probed the reaction to
the threat of violence and when preemptive defense might be intiated. At
that time preemptive force was recognised as essentially okay under the right
provocation but also that it is a tricky problem in libertarian philosophy.
But I notice all the the time that some libertarians define these
things as not being an initiation of violence.
