Does anyone know if any further investigation has ever came of this?

up for a little back-packing holiday? - kidding)
I apparently missed this story the first time around, but stumbled on it
today while looking up that other Siberian event -Tunguska. It occurred to
me that NEO's represent rock-solid arguments against the luddite fantasy of
peace and naturalistic atonement by returning to some idyllic,
pre-scientific era, even if such a thing were possible without killing off
most of the world's population. Perhaps instead of just touting the benefits
of technology, and arguing the implausibility of turning back, we might also
attack the proposed long-term sustainability of the alternative?
