We weren't looking at the McNally map
(http://www.nwc.navy.mil/newrulesets/images/EastHem_resized.jpg
Which does show NK circled as a 'future hot spot' but not enclosed
within a dotted black line which would denote it as within the
'connectedness gap'.
Other quibbles I have: the NK part of the map displays only a few dots,
which would imply that its a slightly risky but not truly a freakily
dangerous place that almost triggered a major conflict in 1994 and has
37,000 US troops permanently posted on its border. If you look at other
locations, it doesn't seem much more dangerous than the Phillipines,
Angola, or Indonesia, none of whom are ruled by despotic totalitarian
regimes that have kidnapped people from neighboring nations, have a
problem with their own citizens defecting and escaping in military
vessels, and which supports an active insurgency and dissident movement
in one of its neighbor nations.
The map would imply that the former Yugoslavia is the most dangerous
place to be within the gap.
None of the sigils assigned denote any features that would explain why
those countries are within the gap (and why others are not).
