There is more than one consideration here. If they are making their own
GM foods, who owns the right to the seeds? If it's the farmers, then
you get one outcome. If it's some corp., then you get another. If it's
a corp, then it's quite likely to be a mistake to count on the
short-term gains, as the note will come due, and they won't care that
you will starve.
In India, I'm not sure that Monsanto doesn't own the BT Cotton that they
are planting. It seems to be closely involved, even though it hasn't
(yet) been campaigning to clamp down on farmers sharing their seeds. In
China, I think it likely that everything is owned by either the govt. or
by a state owned corp., so they may well be no worse off than they would
be anyway.
