I think I could live with all messages discussing Iraq containing IRAQ in
the subject line... but please *do* be careful to label *all* such
messages. And try to keep the massive vitriol now being generated on this
list from becoming personal animosity that will spill over onto other,
non-Iraq threads.
I'd prefer an outright ban, actually - I don't think that freedom of
speech in particular fora of the Net is a good idea; people should always
be free to create new fora, but within any given forum, I think it's
important to prevent poisoning of the well. I fear that even if all Iraq
discussion is clearly labeled and cleanly killfiled, it will still detract
from the tone and the civility of the forum - I can't killfile all the
people who read the Iraq threads, and I can't undo the virtual killfiling
of the people who unsubscribe in disgust or just never subscribe to begin
with. But I can live with a subject line keyword.
