With an inksuit covered in digital ink and some MEMS cameras inbuilt into
the suit, along with a very chunky computing ability, something like the
suit in GHOST IN THE SHELL etc. could be achieved, probably within 5 years
or so.
Of course, it could only work with one observer. Perhaps a crude version
using 3-D surfacing (such as current flat holograms) might be able to fool
two or three human observers at the same time, from a distance and from
different directions.
Just because a pin-box camera is not a digital camera doesn't mean that it
is irrelevant.
