DB> In the words of the rueful old saying:
DB> "God preserve me from my friends!"
GM> Ok, I'm totally missing the reference here Damien!
I can't find a credited reference--I suppose it's too old
a saying and too simple to be accurately attributed (also,
most references are "Lord preserve us..." or "Heaven...").
At any rate, the sentiment is simple enough: when one has a
cause that departs from the mainstream, one often finds people
supporting the cause who are themselves mainstream rejects for
other, and good, reasons. The way libertarians often attract
patriot/militia goons, or the way my speeches against copyright
often attract cheers from socialist idiots who think I'm trying
to subvert the capitalist media or create a world of sharing
and free love or some such nonsense.
If we're trying to push the cause of immortality, it may not
be the best advertising to promise people that they could wake
up in 2100 and face insipid pop music from a 140-year-old man
who /still/ hasn't grown up. Personally, I'd much rather be
revived in the group with Ted Williams.
