I've noticed that or the equivalent in the US. If you live within 50
miles of a border or if you have a large immigrant population then there is
interest in the outside -- otherwise there isn't a lot of interest except for
war, the olympics and a few exceptional events. Lets face it most folks
work, watch TV or go bowling, etc.
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi showed that most folks lead such dull
existances off the job that they are happiest at work.
