I remmeber a Daniel Galouye novel written in 1966, "The day the Sun died",
where a group of people asks a somewhat "divine" being to forbid all
nuclear reactions in this universe, in the name of world peace. Of course
they manage to turn off the Sun, and have to quickly change their mind.
