Damien,
Yes, it is a muggs game. Those that wish to go to war can never win
that argument with the peaceniks. They think we are so much more noble when
we stand passively and die magnificently.
But we will go anyway. We know that the right to assemble was not
delivered to us by those planning peace protests and trying to trip our
efforts. It was delivered to us by our forefathers fighting and dying.
Emancipation was not delivered by cousin Abe with his Emancipation
Proclamation but by my great great uncle (and thousands of others) lying dead
in the military graveyard in Nashville, Tennessee (and other places).
The peaceniks can do as they please. Let them get organized. Let
them spit when the boys come home. We will do what has to be done.
As to Australia and its determination to act within the permissions of
the UN. It is not for me an American to comment on Australian Sovereignty
nor on who they decide to allow to exercise that sovereignty. When I was an
American sailor I learned a rule of etiquette that doesn't seem to be well
known in the general population -- gentlemen do not attempt to tell other
countries citizens how to see to their own security -- I won't do it. You
see if I advise Australia wrongly the Australians take the consequences while
I go free.
