The message board is now too large for the computers
at the local libraries to load. After it was switched
to displaying the entire prior year from displaying on
a quarterly basis, it has been slowing down little by
little until it was taking several minutes to refresh
the title listings. (BTW - the search by date default
option from the home page
http://www.extropy.org/forums/index.html
has NEVER worked, at all.) Now it is so large that
the library's Pentium 4 machines with 128Meg of RAM
can no longer access it.
Of course, this also means that people in areas with
slow connections are SOL. The library has very fast
connections, but msg. board listing is just too huge.
I'm sure that if they increased memory, that would
solve the problem temporarilly, but it seems clear
that the only real solution for the general public to
access the messages is to go back to a smaller
subsection of the total listings.
