the war was to bring the Soviet into the Pacific war on our side. At the end
they did come in and as a result Korea was split at the 38th parallel.
       Herman Wouk I believe raised a very interesting question in either The
Winds of War, or Remembrance of War. What if Japan and Germany had not
attacked Europe and America but had divided the Soviet between them? Look at
a globe and notice the position they would have been in.
