A hit of tennis. Pressed for time. A friend rang
you. Honest to evolution, how are computers ever
going to figure out what we are talking about?

My notion was that the way computers will first
learn about human ways will be to read all the
books in our libraries. Then it occurred to me
that the first educational contact they will have
with us will more likely be our email archives,
since those are already in ASCII, and therefore
more immediately accessible. Email tends to be
less formal, chatty, grammar less rigid.

We need to create a huge collection of sayings,
along with their definitions. We need to explain
to computers that Brett is not being processed
upon an ironing board in exchange for some
arbitrary number of minutes.

Otherwise we are going to have some deeply
emotionally disturbed AIs on our hands. spike
