The world's fastest train made its first public appearance yesterday,
accelerating smoothly to 430kmh before jamming on the brakes so that it
would not run out of track.
Shanghai's futuristic maglev (magnetic levitation) train was inaugurated by
German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji in a
demonstration of new technology that could transform modern ground
transport.

New Scientist predicts a Danish team at Aarhus University will teleport a
visible object this year.
But Hans Bachor, director of the Australian Centre of Excellence for
Quantum-Atom Optics, quips: "We will give them a run for their money."
