Warning: Libertarian views and a strong academic record are not
enough. I applied three times, and only won a token amount in one
year. In retrospect, I shouldn't have bothered. And I knew three
previous winners well (including Max).
Fortunately, I won a Sloan dissertation fellowship this last year, and
seem to have a good shot at some good prof jobs. (I currently have
interviews at Chicago, Penn, Northwestern, Rochester, NYU, Wisconson.)
