British astronomers said Thursday they had found evidence to back U.S.
space scientists' reports that they had found traces of life in a
meteorite from Mars. The British scientists said samples from two
separate Martian meteorites showed definite traces that could have
been left by living organisms. One was recent enough to indicate that
there still could be life surviving somewhere on Mars. That sample
contained traces of a carbon isotope that is often formed by
