The currently most fashionable area of research is to try to get axons to
grow through a perforated silicon chip, enabling two way communication.
There are some projects about this out there, and related research
looking at other silicon-neuron interfaces. I think the animal
experiments are showing some results, but we are still far from a good
interface.

Interesting! Do you mean an EEG system, or really an EKG? One of our
projects here at Aleph is to build a EEG device to use for exactly this
kind of experiments; we would be very interested in exchanging ideas,
results and experiments with you.
