SPACE FOR THE 22ND CENTURY

NASA officials predict that regular human habitation of other planets is likely by the year 2100. Row Rogacki, space transportation director at Marshall Space Flight Center, says the key will be "safe, reliable, affordable transportation." To that end, NASA engineers are trying to design higher-energy and lower-cost propulsion systems. Others are studying how faster- -light travel might be possible.
