2^10 = 1024, $100 = 1000 dimes, I think Lee conflated the 1024 and the 1000 to get 24. 1023 times out of 1024 the bet returns $.10, once it costs $100, net is $2.30 over all bets, 0.22461 cents "profit" per bet.
