One article (in recent J. Econ. Persp.) fits a Markov model to recent changes
(some countries do very well, some very bad), and then projects evolution out
into the future. By this model, it's unlikely the U.S. would fall very far
below the top for quite some time.

I referred to "per capita" growth rates.
