Scientists from UCSD are reporting that they now have pictures
of short term and long term memories being formed.
Using non-invasive pulses of light they can induce "natural"
neuroal excitations which induces actin polymerization to
move neurons toward one another. Repeated excitation
resulted in the formation of new synapses forming long
term memories.

to the Abstract from the Nov. 30th Cell. I'll leave it

since I suspect some information may have gotten lost
