Woooo hooooo!
There is an early report of a new Mersenne prime, discovered
today. Of course the verification process is underway. With
the size of the range now being searched, exponents in the
13 millions, it will take a couple weeks before it becomes
official. If it is correct, the new record prime has about
4 million digits.
Lets hope it is right. We have gone over two years since
the last record was set on 1 June 1999 and the GIMPS
group is waaaaay overdue for a party.
