Aren't we talking about a new meme here? A bit of evolutionary thinking
might help. If this meme is to me successful and live on, it has to out
compete other memes. This one kills its host - dumb. All that will happen is
that the host will rise again, immune. The meme will educate it's victims.
History will look back on it like WW2 population stats - a glitch in the
scheme of things.

The sort of person that this meme would infect would be a very sick little
puppy. One thing is guarateed - if recent events are anything to go by,
there's a sick puppy for every occasion.
