I agree with Merkle, I don't see why you'd need to describe the exact position and
exact velocity of every atom in every water molecule, just saying "there are 94322
water molecules at about this temperature at about this position in this cell" should
be more than good enough.

I don't understand, who cares about energy loss, photons are cheap. It's
information that's important and even 1970 technology could communicate
over galactic distances, if there was anyone to communicate with.
